Taiwan is located in East Asia in the Western Pacific Ocean and off the southeastern coast of mainland China. It is known by many names — Formosa, Republic of China, or Chinese Taipei Swimsuits. Taiwan possesses its own individuality although it is Chinese in some ways and is often associated with mainland China. It has been influenced too by Japanese, Confucian, Han Chinese, American and European cultures.

Taiwan is also dubbed as one of the ‘Four Asian Tigers’ together with Hong Kong, Singapore and South Korea. However, its rapid economic growth has taken its toll on its ecological resources. Thus, the Taiwanese government has tried to preserve what is left of its natural wealth by establishing six areas as national parks, each boasting of naturally beautiful landscapes, mountain ranges, bodies of water, rainforests and wildlife, marine ecosystems, and many more.

Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, is home to the famous 508-meter tall Taipei 101, which was the tallest building in the world from 2004 until the emergence in 2010 of the 828-meter tall Burj Khalifa, of Dubai in The United Arab Emirates. Aptly called Taipei 101 because of its 101 floors, it has an Indoor Observatory (89th floor), an Outdoor Observatory (91st floor) and shopping malls from the basement to the 6th floor.

Aside from Taipei 101 and the six national parks, there are many other places to visit or see in Taiwan — among others, the National Palace Museum (holding 600,000 pieces of antiquities, paintings and calligraphic works); temples (in Tainan, Taiwan’s temple town); Shilin Night Market; Taipei Zoo; traditional folk festivals; and natural attractions outside of the metropolitan areas.

Taiwan has two international airports in Taoyuan, and the other in Kaohsiung. Several airlines serve both airports connecting them to North America, Europe, Africa and Asia. Taiwan can also be reached by sea from Macau and Okinawa, Japan on board ferries to Keelung and Kaohsiung.

The country is evenly hot and humid during summer (June to August). So, it is ideal to go there at other times of the year. However, it is best to avoid the holidays like the Chinese New Year (in late February) and the various festivities in October when streets, hotels and transport can become crowded to overcrowded.

New evaluation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), based on case studies from across Asia treavel and the Pacific, calls for a set of ?power plus? services ? one that combines access to contemporary energy for heating, cooking and electricity, with measures that generate cash, supplement incomes and boost wellness and education.

Issued the very same week as UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon launched a global campaign to offer Sustainable Energy for All, the UNDP report confirms that there can be no development with out power, and that poverty can not be addressed sustainably without having paying due attention to energy services. The report adds that the poor require energy to get out of poverty, but power alone is not sufficient.

?Power services are typically not affordable by the rural and urban poor and on their own have small impact,? says Martin Krause, who leads the UNDP regional climate, environment and power team in Asia treavel and the Pacific. ?The poor need assistance to create earnings so that power becomes cost-effective, which in turn will increase household living standards,? he says.

Almost half the world?s population lacks trustworthy access to contemporary energy services. And a lot more than 20 percent of the global population, or 1.4 billion people, remain with out access to electrical energy.

Roughly two.7 billion men and women ? 40 percent of the world?s population ? rely on wood, charcoal or animal waste for cooking and heating. By 2030, household air pollution from biomass use in inefficient stoves is most likely to trigger much more than 1.five million deaths a year.

Lack of power access and its impact on wellness, education and revenue continue to be a substantial trigger of chronic poverty. Since poverty in turn inhibits access to power services, a vicious cycle develops. The publication, Towards an ‘Energy Plus? Method for the Poor, reviewed 17 power access projects across the region to discover out what works and what does not operate in breaking the vicious poverty-power-poverty cycle.

The findings indicate that most power projects adopt a minimalist strategy, focusing on the fundamental energy requirements of the poor for lighting properties, cooking and heating. However, ?power services per se do not reduce poverty,? says the report. ?Instead, they transform individuals from getting ?poor without power access? to ?poor with energy access.??

?This is due to the fact the energy services offered do not open possibilities to poor households to boost their incomes. Consequently, the resources needed to acquire modern day energy services continue to be limited, and energy programmes are forced to rely on perpetually unsustainable subsidies,? notes the report.

In addition, the report finds that ?Power, poverty and heavy reliance on biomass fuels have a disproportionate effect on women and young children, who are forced to spend substantial time collecting fuel wood and preparing meals in poorly ventilated kitchens.?

The report further calls for energy access programmes that contain a clear concentrate on ladies and disadvantaged groups. It adds that ?improved access to power need to be accompanied by measures that produce income or enhance livelihoods, which enhances the capacity to spend for power services.?

The publication concludes that energy access programmes and policies need to be developed in conjunction with other development initiatives such as savings and credit facilities, road infrastructure, telecommunications, schools and well being facilities, agricultural extensions services, access to markets and entrepreneurship improvement.

i know several men and women from Kasakhstan, so it occurs to me, if they are leaving to get greater jobs and increase their lives, how wonderful can Kazakhstan be? there are a lot of troubles there tensions among Muslims and non-muslim, poor infrastructure and social support, severe environmental degradation (thank you oil guys)
cannot see any good purpose to contemplate operating there
you could gain some money but you will lose far far more
